Kirkbymoorside
"Church dwellings beside the moor" lies on the southern edge of the North York Moors National Park on the A170, between Helmsley and Pickering. It is a small market town, unspoilt and traditional, often known as "The Gateway to the Moors".

The North York Moors National Park
This is the largest expanse of heather upland in England. The dramatic moorland scenery, picturesque villages and 30 miles of stunning coastline make it an unforgettable experience. From April to October you can explore using the Moorsbus network.

The North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway
The 18 mile line runs between Pickering and Grosmont, through the heart of the National Park. Trains also call at the picturesque stations of Levisham, and Goathland (Aidensfield in "Heartbeat" TV series). A number of events are held during the year including Steam Galas, and the popular Wartime Weekend in October.

Castle Howard
Designed by Vanbrugh in 1699, this is the largest stately home in Yorkshire set in beautiful gardens and park lands. During the year there are many events, outdoor tours, concerts, exhibitions and tours with characters from Castle Howard's past.

Set in two-and-a-half acres at Hutton-le-Hole, this was Museum of the Year in 1995. Consisting of an amazing collection of rescued and restored historic buildings, it is the finest open air museum in Yorkshire.

Helmsley
Situated on the banks of the River Rye, this is one of Yorkshire's most popular market towns where buildings of mixed architectural style surround the market square and where there is a busy market on Fridays. Helmsley is popular with walkers as the starting point of the Cleveland Way National Trail and the Ebor Way.
Duncombe Park
This fine house at Helmsley is the family home of Lord & Lady Feversham. It has been carefully restored and is surrounded by unique 18th century landscaped garden and parkland.

The Historic City of York
York is one of the great medieval walled cities of the world. It is approximately 40 minutes by car. A day can easily be spent viewing the sights, including the City Walls and Minster, the Jorvik Viking Centre, York Castle Museum and the National Railway Museum. There are also plenty of opportunities for shopping and the day would not be complete without a visit to Betty's famous tea rooms.
